Sensational Kenya Sevens winger Collins Injera scored a hat-trick of tries to help his Mwamba team upset varsity side Blak Blad 26-13 at RFUEA grounds on Saturday in a round nine Kenya Cup fixture.

Courtesy of the win, Kevin Wambua’s charges had provisionally climbed above Nondescripts to fourth thanks to their early kick off contest, but a narrow 33-32 win for Nondies against Top Fry Nakuru knocked them back to  fifth.

Mwamba ran in four tries; converting three against Blak Blad penalty.

With Mwamba bouncing back to winning ways after being demolished 46 -15 by table topping Kabras Sugar two weeks ago, they started on a bright note with a try from Injera who cut through Blad’s defenc e to score the opener after a superb play from Elvis Namusasi. Tony Omondi converted to make it 7-0.

Experienced Horace Owiti picked a pass at the flank from assistant captain Mike Agevi who won it from the scrum to score the second try at the right corner to make it 12-0, but fullback Allan Ominde scored a penalty to cut the deficit to 12-3 at the interval.

Michael ‘Tank’ Otieno charges came back stronger in the second half with fly half Bryon Ogada scoring an unconverted try after winger Archadias Khwesa stole the ball after a successive line out to make it 12-8.

But the brilliant Injera was too bright for the varsity side stepping up with a wonderful run to score a try for Mwamba which Elvis Namumasi converted to make it 19-8.

Leroy Mbugua pulled one back for Blad but Injera was at it again, with two minutes to go, as Omondi made no mistake with the conversion to make it 26-13 for Mwamba.

Mwamba’s next match will be against Mean Machine at home while Blad will be hosting Kenya Harlequin.
