Injured Were motivated to make Stars mark

Jesse Were says failing to make the national team for the 2019 AFCON in Egypt has only served to motivate him to work harder to reclaim his spot in the Harambee Stars squad.

The Zesco United striker was a shock omission in Sebastien Migne’s final squad that represented the country at AFCON in Egypt but has been called back to the team with Francis Kimanzi now in charge as head coach.

In his own words, “I am working hard on the training ground. I really do my best to be here. The coach has trust in me and has called me back again. So hopefully, when I get the chance, I will do my best.”

Were differed with suggestions that the Zambian league is inferior to the Kenyan Premier League in terms of competitive quality, which pundits claimed was part of the reason he had been left out.

Jesse responded saying, “ the Zambian team is better than Kenya and the competition in Zambia is tougher as compared to that in Kenya.”

The 30-year-old has made over 20 appearances but is yet to score his first goal in the national team colours and will not feature on Sunday during Kenya’s friendly match against Uganda after he sustained an injury last week.
