Injury-hit Gor out to complete CAF job

Midfielder Kevin ‘Ade’ Omondi and striker Ephrem Guikan will be subjected to late fitness tests ahead of Gor Mahia FC’s weekend clash against Tunisian giants Esperance.

The two players are the only injury concerns for the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) champions as they plan for the CAF Champions League return leg fixture although Wellington Ochieng and Karim Nzigiyimana remain sidelined.

Coach Dylan Kerr maintained he believes his team will do him proud despite the injuries, picking out striker Jacques Tuyisenge and George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo as those he expects to cause trouble for Esperance.

“We don’t have to give in to Esperance tricks, we will go there focused to win. I’m happy because of the support from our fans despite drawing nil nil at home; they give us the best motivation,” Coach Dylan Kerr told Citizen Digital.

Gor will travel on Thursday evening amid a fixture scheduling debacle that remains unresolved with CAF and the host team issuing varying matchday dates.

In a statement published on their social media pages, Esperance suggested the date has been postponed by a day to Sunday although continental governing body and event organizers CAF have indicated on their portal that the dates remain unchanged.

The first leg played in Machakos ended in a barren draw and as a result K’Ogalo will need an outright win or a scoring draw to advance to the lucrative group stage of the competition.
