Intense training catalyst to our victory-KCAU coach

Kenya College of Accounting University (KCAU) hockey team head coach Luke Mbom has heaped praise on his charges after securing a hard fought 3-1 victory over Chaise Sailors in a Kenya Hockey Union Premier League men’s clash  at City Park on Sunday .

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mbom said that intense training was the catalyst to the win, adding that they will fight to the last man to secure survival in the league.

“We have been in training for the last two weeks. The boys have not been following instructions and it, in a way, resulted to poor results in our last encounters but today (Sunday) they followed instructions and good results followed,” he said.

“Believing in my players and convincing them that they can win is also another strategy,” he added.

The Sunday victory took KCAU to position 12 on the 15-team league on 17 points after 20 matches, dislodging Strathmore University who have played fewer games and Western Jaguars who have three games in hand.

At the same time, Chase head coach William Okech was not impressed by the performance of his boys.

Okech bemoaned his team’s attitude saying that they lost several scoring opportunities which could have won them the match.

“We got many scoring opportunities but my boys did not capitalize on them while our opponents took their chances hence their victory.

After the weekend loss, Chase is still rooted at position nine on 29 points, two behind Parklands Sports Club, who have a game in hand.

Elsewhere, Wazalendo’s 2-1 victory over Parkland was enough to dislodge former champions Butali Sugar Warriors from position three.

The Sugar Warriors are yet to play a match in this second leg.

At the same time, Green Sharks continued their winning streak after securing 2-0 over Park road Badgers; the victory saw them move to 37 points, 12 points behind runaway leaders Kenya Police who top the table with 49 points.
