The annual Tuskys Cross Country race has been rebranded to Tuskys Great 10k Wareng Half Marathon, with the 13th edition slated for November 24.

This year’s event will encompass various races such as the 21km, 10km and 5km.

Speaking during the launch on Wednesday at the Tuskys head office, company CEO Dan Githua affirmed that the changes were informed by the need to encourage more participants to embrace the event.

“The format is changing, those who have been to the event before may know that we usually do a cross country where we run in a closed event, we are improving it by making it a road race, a 10 km road race going through Eldoret that makes it more visible and it allows us to have more participants,” explained Githua.

“We are looking at discovering new champions in this marathon; we are working with active adults, students and even cooperate organizations doing a fun race, so it is a complete bouquet of an event for both competitive and fun activities on that date.

“The Tuskys great run is organized in accordance with the rules of IAAF and Athletics Kenya, we expect that we will have a race that will represent the alumni of the race…,” added Githua.

Githua’s sentiments were echoed by Athletics Kenya president Jackson Tuwei.

“We are looking forward to this event which has changed a little bit; we will all be there to witness this change which has come in terms of running athletics and handling road race

“We will see new athletes coming up, and one of our objectives is to nurture talents,” the athletics supremo reckoned.

According to Tuwei, some of the winners from the event will represent the country in the next year’s Olympics noting that the likes of terming Vivian Cheruiyot and Wilson Kiprop are products of the race.

The race which will start outside Tuskys Zion branch and end at Tuskys Eldoret Centre Branch in Eldoret is expected to attract more than 5,000 participants.
