It’s Easter hunt at Top Fry Great Rift 10s

Champions Menengai Cream Homeboyz will put their Top Fry Great Rift 10-Aside title on the line against some fine opposition as the tournament gets underway over the weekend at the Nakuru Athletic Club.

The 29th edition of the annual competition has witnessed a surge in the number of participating teams forcing event organisers to reverted to a 32-team format.

The four-day event tournament will also host various age grade and High School teams, giving rugby enthusiasts getting the chance to enjoy the sight of their favourite sport during the festive Easter period.

Some of the ladies’ teams that have confirmed their participation include Sharmas,  hosts Top Fry Nakuru, New Life, Baringo High and Nakuru Day.

Hosts Top Fry Nakuru RFC headline Pool D and should be the crowds’ favourites with young blood expected to thrill fans.

Travelling fans have been assured of their safety with security set to be beefed up at the grounds.

Homeboyz have been seeded top of the group stages of the upcoming tournament.

They will launch their title defence bid against championship side Western with nationwide side Makueni RFC and Kenya Cup finalist Kabras Sugar also in the Pool A.

Freshly minted Kenya Cup champions KCB are in a favourable Pool C that includes Kenya Harlequins, championship side Mean Machine and nationwide side Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.

Action in the women’s senior category to be played from Friday morning will double up as the final round of the KRU Women’s 10-a-side festival as fans get to be treated to an age grade and the ever popular senior men’s category.

This takes place after a week of the Kenya Cup final that KCB defending their title in fashion style.

The championship and Nationwide league’s will be ongoing but will take a break for the Nakuru 10s weekend.

In last year’s edition Homeboyz beat Strathmore Leos 22-0 to win the main Cup trophy.

Top Fry will  remain as the events main sponsor and have also attracted more co-sponsors like Happy Cow Dairy, Soko Maize meal, Tusker, Reliable Concrete Works, Nakuru Nursing Home, Hero Radio & Excellent Pest control.
