Jaguars pounce on KU, Slider fall to Telkom

Western Jaguars bounced back from last weekend’s setback at Green Sharks as they edged Kenyatta University 2-1 in their Kenya Hockey Union Men’s Premier League clash at City Park.

The Jaguars were 3-0 losers to Sharks but showed great recovery on Sunday as goals from Willis Malusi and Ian Baron sandwiched Saul Maina’s strike to seal the win.

Malusi notched a 14th minute opener before Maina cancelled it out in the 43rd. However, Baron, who enjoyed a brilliant afternoon had the final say as his late strike settled the contest.

With the victory, Jaguars climbed one place up to 13th on the log, dislodging Kenya College of Accounting University (KCA-U) with 19 points from 18 outings.

For KU, defeat means they remain rooted at 12th place, two points ahead of Jaguars.

In the corresponding women’s league, leaders Telkom Kenya walloped Sliders 3-0 earlier at the same venue.

Telkom were superb on set-piece execution, capitalizing on three well-worked short corners to prick the visitors with Georgina Lumumba, Tery Juma and Lilian Avea on the end of them.

Telkom thus tightened their grip of top spot, extending their points tally to 39, five ahead of second placed United States International University (USIU).

Sliders are placed sixth on 20 points from 14 outings.
