Jerop, Mutitu winners of Madoka Half Marathon

Peter Mutitu emerged the winner in men’s 21km race at the 14th edition of Madoka Half Marathon held in Ngerenyi,Taita Taveta County after clocking 1:17:42 to beat close rival Kahora Joseph who came second on 1:18:50.

In women’s category, debutant Cynthia Jerop was much smarter winning in 1:18:55.

Delvine Maringor came second in women’s category, s few seconds away from Cynthia clocking 1:19:20.

This year’s race however faced challenges from adverse weather conditions.

The heavy rains and poor roads made it difficult for the race directors as they struggled to give the right direction to some of the athletes.

However race patron Marsden Madoka was quick to note that despite the bad whether conditions, all went well.

His sentiments were not shared by the athletes, some of whom had travelled all the way from  Eldoret.

“This is not fair. Its really sad that this year the marathon was not well organised .We have been misled on our way and because we don’t know the routes, we had to face it the hard way,” said an angry athlete.

On her part, women’s winner Cynthia admitted that the race was a difficult one citing tiff competition.

“It was not easy but I thank God I have won despite being my first time.The whether was really bad and I could have done better than this,” she said.

Winners in different categories walked away with different prizes including wew motorbikes worthy Sh100,000.
