JKUAT don to become first Kenyan ref to officiate at Cup of Nations
Dr. Peter Waweru, a lecturer at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology is set to become the first Kenyan centre referee to officiate a match at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Waweru has been appointed by CAF to run proceedings in Namibia’s final Group D match against Ivory Coast from 7pm Kenyan time.
He will be assisted by yet another Kenyan, Gilbert Cheruiyot, and Souru Phatsoane from Lesotho.
Ivory Coast are second on the group with three points while Namibia are bottom with no point and will be chasing for their first victory in the competition as action in Group D comes to an end.
After suffering a 1-0 defeat to Morocco in their second match, the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire would try to avoid a second successive early elimination when they face Namibia’s Brave Warriors
Meanwhile, and despite losing their first two games with the same result (1-0) to Morocco and South Africa, Namibia still holds a slim hope of finding a place in the next round, if they could manage victory against the Elephants in their last group game, and depending on other groups’ results then to finish as one of the best four third-placed teams.
