Jolly old Koops can’t hide his joy as hospital sets him ‘free’

AFC Leopards former coach Jan Koops has been set free by the Metropolitan Hospital following a confidential agreement reached by the two parties.

Koops who had been detained at the facility since Saturday due to an accrued bill amounting to Sh 280, 000, is now recuperating at his Buruburu residence in Nairobi.

However, as part of the agreement, the Dutch retiree will clear the bill in the next few months.

The Dutcha man, now 74, twice underwent an operation on his colon after developing sharp pains in his abdomen.

Koops, fondly known as ‘Wepukhulu’ by Ingwe fans, was admitted in the hospital three weeks ago for hernia treatment but got a discharge last Saturday, but could not leave before settling the hospital arrears.

“I am already discharged from hospital but there is a lot of money to pay. We have however made an agreement that I go home but I have to clear the arrears in two months,” a relieved Koops told Citizen Digital.

Koops who guided Ingwe to a third-place finish in the 2012 season has at the same time expressed gratitude to Leopards’ fans who offered him messages of support during the difficult time.
