Jose Mourinho handed stadium ban, fine over misconduct

Chelsea Manager Jose Mourinho is a man under siege after English FA added to his misery by handing him a one-match stadium ban for alleged gross misconduct.

Mourinho has also been handed a £40,000 after admitting a misconduct charge over his language and behaviour in their 2-1 defeat to West Ham on October 24.

The 52-year-old Portuguese was send to the stands after going to speak to referee Jon Moss in his room at half-time.

The ban takes effect immediately, meaning Mourinho will miss Chelsea’s league game against Stoke on Saturday.

There is, however, an option for appeal with the Chelsea manager set to receive a written validation of the ruling, complete with reasons for the decisions made.

The stadium ban is in addition to another suspension and £50,000 fine that Mourinho is facing following his comments after losing to Southampton 3-1 on October 3.

In what was reported to be an attack on match officials, Mourinho said that referees are afraid to award Chelsea penalties.

The Chelsea manager spoke after the match in relation to an incident where referee Robert Madley’s refused to award a spot-kick after Southampton keeper Maarten Stekelenburg brought down Falcao in the box.

Mourinho’s assistant, Silvino Louro has also been charged after he was dismissed during the match against West Ham in relation to his behaviour in the technical area.

The ruling comes a day after Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich issued his verdict on the future of Jose Mourinho, giving the Portuguese a final chance to redeem himself and improve the club’s dwindling fortunes.

Abramovich’s statement came after Chelsea lost 3-1 against Liverpool on Saturday, marking their sixth defeat this season and leaving Mourinho at the brink of a sack.

Despite Abramovich’s support, pressure is mounting on Jose Mourinho to ensure Chelsea qualify for Champions League, which currently seems an uphill task.

It has been a tumultuous season for Mourinho whose troubles began early in the season over his treatment of team doctor Eva Carneiro.

Members of staff and some players at Stamford Bridge accused Mourinho of indecent treatment of Carneiro during their opening match against Swansea after he lashed out at her for legitimately entering the pith to treat injured Eden Hazard.

Mourinho’s argument was that the doctor’s entry to the pitch would force Hazard out of the pitch at a time when Chelsea were pushing to break the 2-2 score line against the compact Swansea. The match ended in a draw.

It is said that the partner of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovic, Dash Zhukova, along with wives and partners of the players felt Mourinho was heavy-handed and disrespectful to the doctor.

Mourinho’s however got reprieve from the FA regarding the issue, after it was decided that he will not be charged for his purported offensive utterances directed to doctor Carneiro.

Carneiro has so far sued Chelsea for unfair dismissal and Mourinho for a part he played in his dismissal.

Mourinho is set to be served the legal papers this week and may be required to appear at an employment tribunal in person unless the case is settled out of court.

Under employment law, an individual can be personally liable for damages if victimization or discrimination can be proved.

Carneiro has also received a job offer from Championship side Charlton Athletics who are interested in enlisting her services upon completion of the case against Chelsea.
