Julius Yego comes from brink of exit to make Javelin final

World champion, Julius Yego, showed nerves of steel to come from the brink of a shock preliminary round exit when he let rip a final throw of 83.55m that ranked him among automatic qualifiers for the men Javelin final of the Rio 2016 Olympics.

The Kenyan field star and Commonwealth titleholder who has not enjoyed a resounding season in the follow-up of his historic world title in Beijing last year was in danger of crashing out after failing to hit the benchmark of 83.00m in his first two attempts.

Yego, who became the first African to contest the Olympics final in London 2012, saw his first effort yield 78.88m before he came close to elimination when he second was ruled a no throw.

However, the YouTube man came back from the dead when his third effort moved him up to fifth in Group B and gave him the chance to chase more history on Saturday during the finals.
