Lawrence Juma scored a hat-trick as Sofapaka FC returned to winning ways with an emphatic 4-2 victory over Mathare United at the Dawson Mwanyumba Stadium in Wundanyi, Taita Taveta.
It was a faulty start to the FKF Premier League season for Mathare United who were playing only their first match of the campaign after they had been suspended from the division over a broadcast dispute.
Despite heavy downpour, Sofapaka wasted no time picking apart their opponents with Juma finding the back of the net after just 12 minutes.
That was the start of a blistering 10 minutes in which the hosts scored thrice with Nixon Omondi and Juma adding to their side’s advantage.
Titus Achesa missed a penalty in the 28th minute when he could have put Sofapaka 4-0 up and it almost looked costly when Daniel Otieno and Chrispine Oduor scored for the visitors late in the second half.
But Juma settled the nerves with a goal in stoppage time as Sofapaka ran out 4-2 winners to end a three-match winless league run.
