Jungle Lady Awino to open XtraKombat rumble at Kasarani

Kenya’s Low Kick champion, Joyce ‘Jungle Lady’ Awino, and South Sudan’s national champion, Natasha ‘Black Queen’ Winnie will set the XtraKombat series rolling on Saturday when the two battle it out for the inaugural super welterweight Low Kick Regional title at Kasarani’s Safaricom Indoor Arena.

Four of the most famous kick boxers will also take center stage, including East and Central African champion, Moses Golola, who has been camping in Nairobi for the last eight weeks ahead of his Black Belt Muay Thai contest with Tanzanian champion Emmanuel ‘African Ninja’ Shija.

The contest code-named Last Man Standing where fighters will kick the seven bells out of each other in knockout format until the eventual winner remains on the ring will be the highlight of the event dubbed One Region; One Champion.

“What we are looking for is the undisputed champion in the region. A person with the stamina to fight in several fights in the same day,” XtraKombat’s Director of Mixed Martial Arts, Master Paul Kabaale told Citizen Digital on Friday.

Kenya’s undisputed Muay Thai champion and local hero, Robert ‘Man Chui’ Nabertson, will take on his Ugandan equivalent, Twaha ‘Black Lee’ Kiiza for the inaugural welterweight XtraKombat regional title.

“Muay Thai Kickboxing is a thrilling, non-stop action-packed sport that we believe will resonate well with combat sports fans. Our first goal is to develop stars and in the near future showcase these incredible athletes in live TV shows.

“It is the ability to execute strikes using eight points of contact as opposed to two points (fists) in boxing and four points (fists, feet) used in the primarily sport-oriented forms of martial arts; it is an especially versatile, brutal, straight forward martial art,” Kabaale added.

“With the success of Muay Thai and Kickboxing in mixed martial arts fighting, it has become the de facto martial art of choice for competitive stand-up fighters,” he underlined.

The event is a co-promoted show by both Kenya Oriental Combat Sports Federation and Xtra Entertainment.
