Juninho backs Neymar to lead Brazil to gold

Former Brazil international Juninho Paulista is backing Neymar to lead the country to Olympic gold in the men’s football at Rio 2016.

The host nation will be aiming to win the tournament for the first ever time when it gets underway on Wednesday.

Juninho, who won bronze with the national team during the 1996 Olympics, believes Neymar will need to control his emotions in front of the home crowd.

“Neymar is a different player, I think he’s unique. When the ball lands on his foot everybody expects a goal. He’s decisive on the national team. He must have an extra emotional control, because he knows his importance on the Selecao.

“The team feels the difference and knows Neymar’s importance. So, Neymar: he is unique, but needs an emotional control,” Juninho stressed.

The 2002 World Cup winner has also warned against the Barcelona superstar switching clubs following speculation over the last 12 months about his future.

“I think he’s settled at Barcelona. He is quite at ease in the field. I don’t know. What we see is that he’s doing well. On a club that’s one of the best around the world, it may not be necessary to change the club.”
