Jury wants stern penalty meted on St George for unsporting behaviour

The Coast Secondary Schools Sports Association jury has recommended that St George’s School of Kaloleni, Kilifi County be disqualified and banned for two-years for player impersonation during the regional school games held at the Kenyatta Mwatate School in Taita Taveta County.

St George broke the rules during their semi-final rugby match against Galana which they won 10-5, but the rugby commissar, a Atsulu Silus noted an ineligible player who was not in the official records but he was using a name of one of the registered student players, hence logging the complaint with detailed videos, pictorial and written evidence.

On the pitch, Galana Secondary School from Magarini, Kilifi County took the trophy for keeps after emerging victorious 11-3 against Taru Secondary school, their third win in a row.

Shimo finished third automatically by virtue of George’s being disqualified.

St George’s have broken the rules for the second year running having been the culprits in the basketball final in 2017 after fielding 11 ineligible players during the regional games at Mazeras School in Kwale County.

Then, the jury also disqualified the school from representing the region in the national games that were held in Nairobi. Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa, who lost in the final, were awarded the trophy and crowned the 2017 Coast Region champions.

In the 2018 national championships, coast region will be represented by Kaya Tiwi from Kwale in both boys and girls basketball.

Kaya Tiwi boys coached by Anthony Ojokwu are the new champions after beating Shimo La Tewa 53-34 while their girls’ team under Philip Onyango had an easy outing, retaining the trophy after crushing former champions Shimba Hills 107-15 in an all Kwale affair final. In handball, the script replicated itself.

White House Secondary School used home ground advantage to win 14-12 against Majenjeni Secondary School in the girls final and 27-13 versus Shimo La Tewa in the boys’ category to get their maiden ticket to the nationals.

In hockey, all teams defended their titles successfully. Bura Girls from Taita Taveta beat St John of Kaloleni, Kilifi 1-0 while Shimo La Tewa from Mombasa had a similar score against St George’s from Kilifi.
