Just One? Stars make minor gain in Fifa rankings

Kenya’s national football team Harambee Stars has made a minor gain in the latest Fifa rankings published Thursday.

The Paul Put coached Stars moved up one place, jumping from position 106 to 105, leaving the new coach with a tough task of improving the otherwise huge number to an admirable top-70 position.

Put took charge of the team late last year but hit the ground running winning the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup at the Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, on December 17 after beating Zanzibar 3-2 on post-match penalties after a 2-2 draw.

The home team’s next major assignment is on March 19 when they host Ghana’s Black Stars in Nairobi in a 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifier.

Continentally, Tunisia moved up four places to claim the top position in Africa and 23 globally. They are followed by Senegal, Egypt, Moroco and DR Congo in that order.

Globally, World Cup champions Germany continues to top, followed by Brazil, Portugal, Argentina, and Belgium in that order.
