Kababeri sevens takes centre stage

The prestigious Kabeberi Rugby sevens takes Centre stage as juggernauts battle out for supremacy from Friday to Saturday at Nairobi’s Rugby Football Union of East Africa Grounds.

Prinsloo Sevens champions Homeboyz will be looking forward to emulate their superb perfomances in Nakuru as they seek to increase their tally of trophies on the rugby scene as they set their eyes on this weekend’s title conquest.

It will however not be a walk in the park for the prinsloo champions as they have been pooled in group A alongside, Nakuru, Western Bulls and Christ Is the Answer Ministries (CITAM) Kisumu.

In an enthralling cup final, Homeboyz clinched the 2016 Prinsloo Sevens Rugby title when they beat Impala 24-19 in an exciting final match played at Nakuru Athletics Club on Sunday.

The winners ran in four tries through Jaffrey Oluoch and Leonard Mugaisi who landed braces apiece while Micheal Wanjala with Mugaisi booting the conversions.

Homeboyz will however be wary of Mwamba, who are the current 2015 Kabeberi Sevens Champions with Mwamba keen to defend their title.

In the previous cup final Mwamba RFC won the final round of the National Sevens Series, pipping Resolution Impala Saracens 26-22 in a thriller at the RFUEA Grounds on Sunday 6 September last year.

Mwamba will however be cautious of a torrid time in the tournament as they have been pooled in group c alongside Quins, Nondies and Menengai.

Impala Saracens will be hoping to put their recent poor form in their past, as they try to prove their credentials on the rugby front as they are front runners in Pool B as they take on Kabras, Blak Blad and University of Nairobi’s Mean Machine.

Strathmore Leos will try to prove they are kingpins of Pool D as they take on Nondies and last weekend’s surprise package Kisii RFC.

The top two teams in each pool qualify for the Main cup quarterfinals with the third and fourth placed teams heading to the Bowl category.
