Kagere tells Gor to finish off Supersport in the first leg

Gor Mahia FC striker Meddie Kagere has told his teammates they must exploit their home advantage in order navigate past Supersport United in their quest to reach the CAF Confederation group stages.

The two sides clash on Sunday at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos for the opening leg of their last-32 playoff and the star striker has urged his teammate to seize the chance to be first on the driving seat.

The Kenyan Premier League (KPL) giants were culpable of missed opportunities as they suffered a 0-1 aggregate loss to Esperance Tunis in the CAF Champions League before they were demoted to the second-tier continental club championship.

“We know what cost us and we want to get everything right this time. We had our chances in the first leg against Esperance but we didn’t utilize them.

“The players are so focused on this game and we know what we need so we shall do our best to make Kenyans happy,” Kagere said.

With Jacques Tuyisenge yet to hit top form having recovered from injury and new signing Ephrem Guikan struggling to adapt, the Ugandan-born Rwandese has been the focal point of Gor’s attack and is primed to lead the frontline again.

“We want to win and score more goals before we go to the return leg,” he stated.

Supersport are enduring a dismal run in their domestic league and are currently ranked 14th after 25 rounds but Kagere warned his teammates of the quality in the South African Premiership.

“The South African league is a bit better than ours (KPL) so we can’t look at their position; we just need to utilize our chances because when they get theirs they will surely use them.”

Gor will be without defender Godfrey Walusimbi who fell out with club over a pay dispute after head coach Dylan Kerr declared he will remain sidelined until his issues are resolved.
