Kagere: Why my partnership with Tuyisenge blossoms

Gor Mahia striker Meddie Kagere has hailed his new found partnership with fellow countryman Jacques Tuyisenge, noting that it has been pivotal to the team’s impeccable run this term.

The two goal machines played together at Police FC in Rwanda before Kagere left to join Rayon Sports in 2014.

They helped Gor win their 16th Kenyan Premier League (KPL) title last season and have so far scored 10 goals between them in all competitions in the current campaign.

“We have been with him (Tuyisenge) in the same club in Rwanda and played together too in the national team,
“he said. “We know each others moves and we are both hard working. That is motivation for us; to work hard and help the team.”

The duo has been instrumental to Gor’s momentum which has seen them qualify for the CAF- Confederations Cup group stage and the duo is expected to feature prominently.

Gor begin their group stage assignments with a tricky looking fixture against Rayon Sport of Rwanda away on May 6 in Kigali in a group ‘D’ match.Gor Mahia FC forward Jacques Tuyisenge (L) celebrates with teammate Medie Kagere after scoring the second goal during their SportPesa Premier League match at the Moi stadium in Kisumu on September 27, 2017. This fixture will be special to the duo as they return to the city they have called home for ages but which, in a sudden turn of fate, they’ll be aiming to harm, at least football wise, when they take on the hosts.

And aware of the expectations and emotions at play, Kagere is not only fired-up but also reckons he’s had to raise his game while in Kenya in order to retain his place in the Gor squad.

“You won’t be a foreigner and play like a local player; you have to show the reason why they signed you. That can only be seen when you deliver on the pitch and that’s what keeps us going,” he said, revealing the painstaking effort foreign footballers put while plying their trades abroad.

Kagere’s goal against Thika united on Sunday was his 46th for Gor in all official tournaments, making him the club’s best scoring foreign player in recent times.

“I believe we have earned the right to play for Gor Mahia; we have a great team that can win every title this season,”he enthused.

Under Briton Dylan Kerr, Kagere believes that the sky can be the limit.“Our coach (Kerr) has been very supportive on and of the pitch.  He gives us the freedom to enjoy football and that can be confirmed by the results on the pitch, and the unity we have,” he concluded.
