Kakamega, Embu in morale boosting wins
Kakamega County Assembly football team beat their counterparts from Kisumu 1-0 on Tuesday in their first match as the fifth edition of the Inter Counties Games entered day two at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos .
Boniface Atsotsi stole the show throughout the tie with his performance paying in the 50th minute after a poor defending from the Kisumu side to score from the close range, his sole goal proving enough to the Western side to earn their first win in group C, which also brings together Kisumu and Kirinyaga.
It was a tough tie from the onset which saw midfielder Ray Samo shown his marching orders in 20th minute after a second booking, following a bad tackle on Michael Amanga of Kakamega .
Kisumu head-coach Dominic Mwalo lamented that the red card to his star man cost his team the game.
“It was not a fair call. The tackle was not that bad and he should have just warned Samo. It was difficult for my boys to march our opponents and that’s why we have lost the tie,” Mwalo told Citizen Digital in a post match interview.
In other football matches of the day, defending champions Kisii drew 1-1 with County Assembly of Narok. This was Kisii’s their second straight draw after Monday’s 1-1 tie against Trans Nzoia .
At the same time, Embu won their first game of the competition beating Bomet 2-0 to go top of group A with three points while the Senate team left it late to draw 1-1 with Kirinyaga, in a match played at the Machakos School grounds.
