Kakamega, St Peters reach County School Games semis

Defending champions Kakamega High and last year’s runners up St Peters Mumias have all qualified for the rugby 15s quarter-finals at the Kakamega County School Games.
Kakamega won all their two opening matches thrashing Kivaywa and Butere boys 61-0 and 39-0 consecutively.
Hosts St Peter’s managed to beat Butere boys 10-7 in a hotly contested tie.
Kakamega will now have rivals St Peter’s this morning in a clash to determine who will finish on top of Pool A.
Disciplines like hockey rugby and swimming were affected due to delays in protest by the stakeholders for lack of finances from the county accounting office.
In girls basket ball,defending champions Butere girls made intention clear by hammering Bishop Sulumeti 90-7 and 83-6 win against Nangili girls in their first two opening matches.
Mukumu girls defeated Bulimbo 55-14 while Nangili managed a 10-5 win against Tombo.
In basket ball boys Mukumu beat Kivaywa 47-22 while Namamba fell to 3-37 at the expense of Lumakanda.
Mukumu boys came from behind to register 60-48 win against hosts St Peter’s.
Mukumu coach Tenya Lumbasi expressed his joy saying that their opponent’s tactics failed to work Infront of their horn fans.
The match was forced into extra time with both sides having 40 points, St Peter’s looking worn out .
“The game was tough you know St Peter’s had recruited taller boys but it worked against them.
“Our tactics worked well as we planned,” he said.
His counterpart Herman Masafu blamed his boys concentration in the extra time though bullish that they will improve.
“In the extra time the boys did not take care of their nitty gritty details regarding the game.
Otherwise they are a good side only but one or two mistakes.
“We are not going to take this as a loss but a win and we will bounce back in our next match”,he concluded.
He has denied allegations from his rival coach that he has recruited insisting that a recruited team can not play super game like was witnessed .
