Why Kameta wants court to block new Sports CS boss Achesa

Boxing Association of Kenya (BAK) president John Kameta has threatened to go to court to challenge the appointment of Rashid Achesa as the Cabinet Secretary for Sports and Heritage.

Kameta disputed Achesa’s claim that he served as Western Boxing Association chairman, saying such regional branch is non-existent.

The BAK chief also made the stunning claim that he has facts disproving Achesa’s submission that he is a former Kenya Prisons employee, saying he is ready to proceed to court on Monday.

In his sentiments on Wednesday, Kameta said Achesa – whose nomination has already been approved by the National Assembly’s Appointments Committee – is unfit to hold the office as he has no experience as a sports administrator.

“Sports ministry is huge and only someone who is competent and has knowledge about this field is capable to handle all its affairs. In my own opinion Achesa is unqualified to get into Hassan Wario’s shoes; he doesn’t have the knowhow hence not fit for the position and I’m ready to prove this in court,” Kameta told Citizen Digital.

Kameta said Achesa’s rise to the Sports docket was the final nail in the coffin of the industry that withstood a string of scandals under Dr. Hassan Wario who was handed a diplomatic assignment as Kenya’s Ambassador to Austria.

“With the previous CS boxing was in the ICU recuperating but now with the new appointed one is the same as killing it in Kenya,” Kameta lamented.

Kameta said the national boxing team is stuck at the Ruaraka Police Depots since the Ministry has yet to pay for the Nakuru Madison Square Gardens which has top notch training facilities.

The team also has plans to hold further training sessions in Cuba ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
