Kandie smashes half marathon world record in Valencia
Kenya’s Kibiwott Kandie smashed the Half Marathon world record after clocking 57:32 at the Valencia Half Marathon on Sunday.
The World Half Marathon silver medallist erased 29 seconds from the previous record of 58:01 set by compatriot Geoffrey Kamworor at the 2019 Copenhagen Half Marathon.
Similarly, it was a sweet revenge for Kandie as he beat Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo who had triumphed at the World Half Marathon in Poland.
Kiplimo would settle for the second spot in 57:37 as world 10000m bronze medallist Rhonex Kipruto who was making his debut came home third in 57:49
In the corresponding women’s race, Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia triumphed in 1:05:18 with Kenya’s Sheila Chepkirui placing second in 1:05:39 as Senbere Tefer of Ethiopia closed the podium in 1:05:51
Kenya’s Dorcas Tuitoek (1:07:18) and Brenda Jepleting (1:08:47) placed fourth and sixth respectively
