Kangaru eye two Highland Region school titles

Supremacy battles for the Highlands Region Kenya Schools Sports Association Term One school games entered their third day ahead of the Saturday finals with Embu’s Kangaru School eyeing the rugby 15s and basketball titles.

Kangaru reached the 15s finals by crushing Yoda Karwigi from Embu 38-7 with Kiriani from Tharaka-Nithi who defeated their counterparts, Ikuu Boys’s 7-3 in the other semi.

In basketball Kangaru booked a place in the decider after outclassing fellow Embu opponents Moi High School Mbiruri 51-29 and they will meet Kitui High who thrashed Muthambi from Tharaka-Nithi 42-17.

The finals will be a repeat of the last stage Group A game where Kangaru emerged victorious 52-38.

Their winning run was however cut short in hockey where Chogoria Boys from Tharaka Nithi thrashed them 2-0 to set a final against Meru School who edged Mutongoni from Kitui County 3-2.

In girls basketball, champions Kirigara Girls from Meru County who have been to the nationals for the last five years easily breezed through Kangaru Girls 44-10.

They will face newcomers Don Bosco Girls from Embu in the finals after they defeated fellow debutants Mituntu Girls from Meru County 21-10 as they bid to defend the title.

Kirigara broke no sweat when they crushed Don Bosco 28-2 in the group stages.

In hockey Gategi from Embu prevailed over Kangeta from Meru 2-0 and will meet Moi Girls from Marsabit who made short work of St. Anne’s Kiriari from Embu in sealing a 2-0 victory.
