Kangaru floor Karwigi as Embu County games begin

Embu County rugby 15s champions Kangaru School launched their title defence bid with 36-0 drubbing of Yonder Karwigi on Thursday as the secondary school games kicked off at the institution.

Daniel Mugambi led the demolition, scoring two of five tries scored by the hosts with skipper Collins Maina converting two of their three conversions for the day.

“The game was not as tough as we expected but we made mistakes in taking penalties and also in our tackles. We must rectify on these in our next match.

“Our target for each game in the county level is to get at least 60 points but today the rainy weather meant we could only manage 36,” Maina said.

Head coach Benson Mwenda acknowledged the team performance saying that they now focus on training through the rain.

“We have never trained in the rain since we can’t change the situation we must go back to training and practice more so as to win all our games and lift the county flag in the regional games come next week. From there we can progress to the nationals and even the East Africa games,” Mwenda said.

Mwenda who is currently playing for Embu RFC said he believes his team will get better in the subsequent matches.
