Kangaru, Miathene set for Rugby 15s finals showdown

Kangaru School will play Miathene in the rugby 15’s finals of the Eastern Region School Games after both won their respective last four clashes in Kangaru, Embu County.

Defending champions Kangaru downed Muvuti Boys of Machakos County 3-0 after a hard-fought semis encounter Miathene edged Meru School 10-6 to advance to the final.

Morris Kariuki was at guilt as the hosts missed two penalties in the first half before the same player made amends deep in the second half when he converted the winning penalty.

Speaking to the Citizen Digital in a post match interview Kangaru head coach Benson Mwenda vowed to improve their conversion rate.

“I have seen we have a problem in conversion side especially when we win the penalties and before facing our opponents tomorrow we have to improve on that,” Mwenda said.

Meanwhile, defending girls’ basketball champions Kirigara of Meru stormed to the finals in style when they outclassed AIC Nunguni of Makueni 67-17 to set up a finals date with Machakos County champions Mua Girls who were 51-17 winners over Tala Girls in the other semi.

In the boys’ category reigning champions Kangaru saw off newcomers Lukenya Boys of Machakos in closely contested semi, winning 30-14 point win to join Meru School in the final.

In Handball, defending champions Nduluni Boys of Makueni will face Kathanthatu of Meru in finals after defeating Keeru of Meru 32-15 with Kathanthatu edging Kikumini of Makueni to sail through.

In girls Kwanthanze of Machakos downed Kirigara of Meru to book final date with Good Hope from Machakos in what will be a repeat of County level finals.
