Kapaito attributes goal repertoire to team work, staying fit

Kariobangi Sharks striker Eric Kapaito says team work and staying injury free has been key to his great form in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League this season.

The Sharks’ striker is the leading goal scorer with 14 goals after 15 games, and with the league stopped for a while following government directive, the striker is hoping to continue with his goal repertoire.

“It has been a combination of many factors so far, God’s grace to staying injury free, hard work, team work and having the ambition to succeed this season,” he explained. “My teammates have been great by creating the chances for me to convert and helping the team gain more points so it’s a collective responsibility.”

Sharks are placed fourth in the league standing and the striker says their quest for a maiden league title is still on course as they have quality players to help in the mission.

“The momentum of the team will definitely be affected by the break we have taken following the government directive, we are hoping to come back and continue fighting for the title despite the struggle of not training as a team,” added Kapaito.

The striker’s great form in the league earned him a call up to the national team in the recent international break and he admits of gaining more experience during that time.

“It’s always a dream to play for the national team. It’s an opportunity any player takes by both hands, because of the different exposure and experience one gains while on duty which I feel was helpful to me because we played  alongside players we look up to and learn from,” the league top scorer told Citizen Digital.
