Karoki, Chepkemoi win Nyahururu AK race

The 2016 World Half Marathon silver medalist Bedan Karoki and Beatrice Chepkemoi are the winners of the inaugural Nyahururu AK Branch 10 Championships held in Nyahururu town on Sunday.

Karoki clocked 28:22 minutes in the 10km road race beating Commonwealth Games 5,000m champion Emmanuel Bett (KDF) who finished second in 28:23:2.

Beatrice Chekemoi and Esther Wairimu came first and second in the women race clocking 33:34:00 and 34:44:07 respectively while Magrete Akidor came in third in 35:02:06 in a race that attracted over 200 athletes .

Despite the scorching sun that glared over the skies, the athletes defied it all to battle for the honours. In a post-race interview, both Karoki and Bett exuded confidence that the victories will inspire them to better tidings in 2019, with Karoki noting that his next major task will be at the Tokyo Marathon set for March 2019

Karoki is bullish than he will perform better in the New Year after a struggle with a tendon injury.

On his part, Bett who trains in Keringet, is preparing for the up-coming World Cross Country Championships set for February 2019 in Denmark as well as the National Cross Country trials set for February.
