KAS scouts pitch camp at KYISA Games to tap talent
Scouts from the Kenya Academy of Sports (KAS) have camped in Busia County to recruit young players to join the academy next year
John Okwemba, an officer from the Academy said they are taking advantage of the on-going Kenya Youth Inter-Counties Sports Association (KYISA) Games to identify talented players to join their ranks.
Addressing the press after a meeting with Director of Sports and coaches at Hotel Rastopark in Busia Okwemba urged coaches to advise the young players to be keep discipline if they are to succeed in their careers.
“I also remind coaches to ensure players retain their jersey numbers, changing of jersey numbers after every match will confuse the scouts when they continue watching talented players in subsequent matches,” he said, adding that recruitment will be above board and based on players’ integrity and professionalism.
He said the meeting was meant to outline modalities and criteria for selection of young people to join the academy, noting that KAS will work with the Council of Governors to ensure that every youth across the 47 counties are included in talent development.
KAS is a national institution involved in talent development, nurturing and identification in order to give the youth chance to showcase their talents.
The academy also conducts capacity building of sports officials and sports administrators and does research in sports.
