Kasumba lifts Sofapaka, Ulinzi hold Gor

Striker Umaru Kasumba stepped up with yet another winner from the spot to fire Sofapaka FC past Sony Sugar in a 1-0 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) victory at the Awendo Green Stadium on Sunday.

Kasumba converted three minutes before half time after the visitors were awarded the penalty when defender Andrew Waiswa had handled the ball inside the area.

The goal took Kasumba’s league tally to 12 goals, two behind Kakamega Hombeoyz marksman Allan Wanga who leads the race for the KPL golden boot.

There was drama during the interchange as a handful of home fans attempted to block the center referee from accessing the dressing room area for the break in an apparent against the penalty awarded against them.

It was a second riotous act involving the Sony fans who also allegedly held AFC Leopards hostage after they refused to play a rescheduled league match over subs-standard match facilities.

At the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, Zoo Kericho FC confounded their KPL survival chances when they went down 2-0 to Posta Rangers thanks to a first half own goal and Marcellus Ingotsi’s second half strike.

The result took Rangers to 15th on 24 points while Zoo slid down into 17th with 20, just five away from basement side Mount Kenya United FC who are also struggling to escape the axe.

Mathare United pulled off an impressive rally to draw 2-2 with Vihiga United with Cliff Nyakeya and Johnstone Omurwa striking in the closing eight minutes to snatch a point after Lawrence Luvanda and Dennis Wafula had blasted the hosts into the lead.

Elsewhere in Kisumu, Enosh Ochieng penalty canceled out Denis Oliech’s opening goal as Ulinzi Stars held KPL Champions Gor to a 1-1 draw.
