Kasumbas goal hauls Sofapaka top, Leopards dispatch Posta

Umaru Kasumba struck late, late in the game to hand Sofapaka a point in a 1-1 draw against Kariobangi Sharks at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Sharks were destined for victory following George Abege’s opener in the 29th minute, but Kasumba spoiled the party in the 89th minute to ensure for shared spoils.

The win took Sofapaka to the summit of the standings on 45 points, same as second placed Bandari who however have an inferior goal difference.

Earlier on at the same venue, AFC Leopards mauled Posta Rangers 3-1, with Brian Marita, Robsinson Kamura and Whyvonne Isuza finding the mark for Ingwe.

There was little desire to shown by either teams to net an opener  in the opening quarter-hour mark and perhaps  set the pace for the game with both sides indulging in  long and inaccurate passes as each side battled to  outmanoeuvre the other.

Sydney Lokale could have put Sharks ahead in the 17 minute after he found himself on the other end of a Duke Abuya cross from the right flank but his shot missed the goal posts by a few inches.

In the 22nd minute, Abege sent an adrenaline rush in the Sofapaka fans with a powerful strike outside the box but goalie Justin Ndikumana’s stretched arms parried the ball out for a fruitless corner.

Just before the half hour mark, Kariobangi who looked to have had the upper hand so far in terms of offensive attack capitalized on Sofapaka’s defensive lapse as Abege reacted fastest to tap in a looping header from Geoffrey Shiveka who was put through by Duke Abuya .

With 15 minutes to go it appeared as if Sofapaka’ s fate was sealed  with their desperate attempts to penetrate the Sharks backline proving futile until the 89 minute when Kasumba  drove the ball into the back of the net after being put through by Elly  Elieche.
