Katana ‘Messi Agege’ speaks of his joy after joining Belarus club
Kenyan attacking midfielder Mohammed Katana popularly known as Messi Agege has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with Belarus top tier FC Smolevichi.
The Aspire Academy graduate joins the club from Mombasa based side Bandari FC.
Agege in an interview with Citizen Digital expressed his joy of completing the transfer after a series of trials with several European clubs.
“It’s a dream come true for me as it is always every player’s wish to play abroad,” said a delighted Katana.
According to Agege, he completed his international transfer some minutes before the closure of the transfer window in Belarus, thanking all stakeholders who made the move possible.
“I thank my former club (Bandari), the Kenyan Federation and my agent for making me achieve my goal, now I’m ready to unleash the Messi in me,”he joked.
Agege was signed by Bandari before the beginning of this season but only played one game in September 2019 when he scored a winner in a 3-2 comeback against Zoo FC at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa.
Before joining Bandari the youngster was featuring for Portuguese second-tier side Leixoes SC.
Earlier on he had tried out his luck with Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos but the deal did not materialize.
FC Smolevichi is currently 12th in a 16-team Belarus league – the only league currently ongoing in Europe despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
They have played two games so far losing and drawing and are scheduled to tackle FK Vitebsk in their third game over the weekend.
