KCB rugby ace Kilonzo shot dead

Barely seven months after the tragic death of Andrew Wekesa, a Homeboyz senior player who was killed in a night brawl in January, Kenyan rugby has been plunged into mourning once again.

Promising center James Kilonzo was Monday night shot dead by thugs at an M-PESA shop in Kasarani, Nairobi.

Speaking to Citizen digital, Kilonzo’s elder brother Peter Kilonzo – also a teammate at KCB – said he was informed by a relative on of the tragic news moments after its occurrence.

“My cousin who stays close to him called me and told me what had happened,” he said.

Kilonzo  was one of the key players for the Bankers who dominated the local rugby fifteens season clinching both the Kenya cup and Enterprise titles.

The 23-year-old who was renown for his pace, power and eye for the try line was one of the players touted to earn his cap with the national team.

Kilonzo who played for the Catholic Monks before making his move to the bankers was a second year student at the Institute of Advanced Technology according to his elder brother and returned from South Africa on July 9 after a week long tour .

Investigations into the incident are currently underway.
