KCB appoints Zico as head coach hours after ditching Gor Mahia

KCB FC has appointed Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno as their new head coach ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Otieno, who takes over from June 10, replaces tactician Frank Ouna who has since left the club.

The appointment came barely 24 hrs after Zico, a Gor legend, resigned from his role at the glamour club where he’d worked as an assistant coach, helping the club win back-to-back league titles as well as reach the quarter finals of the 2019 CAF Confederations Cup.

The bankers said in a statement that the transition is part of the changes meant to strengthen the team ahead of the coming season.

KCB finished the 2018/19 campaign at position 10 with 45 points and will be out to better this run.

“We are keen to continually build a strong squad and tap to its full potential. We are looking at a top four finish next season and therefore we are looking for the right mix of skills to propel the team,” said Paul Russo, the club’s president who is also the KCB Group Director for Regional Business.
