KCB bank KPL hopes on transfer targets

New season calls for new ambitions.

At KCB FC, Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno, the man tasked with turning around the team’s fortunes from perennial flower girls to title challengers knows exactly what has to be done.

After falling short in his bid to break into the top-three last term, Zico is banking his hopes on potential new signings to spark some life among the bankers.

Key in this is signing up a defender, a midfielder and striker. The targeted trio is expected to put pen to paper and link up with the Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno coached side soon.

As such, Zico, known for his knack as a defensive stalwart in his days, yet one who throws caution to the wind in his stint as a coach moreso where the stakes are high, is already touting the soon-to-arrive unnamed trio to spice up his team’s display as the clock races to the 2020/21 KPL season.

His deputy Geoffrey Oduor told Citizen Digital that their ambition in the transfer market should not be under-estimated as they push for the KPL trophy having finished fifth last term.

“I can’t give the names now but the new players are joining, the priority number one next season is the league trophy. We are beefing up the three departments, goal keeping will remain untouched.

“We performed well last season and want to get even better this season now that we are a stronger team,” Oduor said.

This comes barely a month after the club parted ways with eight players deemed surplus to requirements.

Among those released is the 2017 bronze winner in the race for the golden boot Stephen Waruru, former K’Ogalo defender Pascal Ogweno, left-back Bolton Omwenga, and striker Benson Amianda.

Goalkeeper Allan Owiny was also let go alongside Kenneth Mukuria.

Erick Otieno, Brian Olango, and Gabriel Mugabo completed the list.
