Kenya Commercial Bank head coach Japeth Munala is leaving nothing to chance ahead of their return to the Women African Club Championship set for March 14-25 in Al Ahly Club Hall, Cairo, Egypt.

Expecting a baptism of fire in Cairo, Munala who returned to the banker’s camp after ditching Kenya Pipeline has already hit the ground running intensifying training to get her girls in shape before the championship serves off.

KCB have won the coveted continental title once in 2006 when they defeated this year’s hosts Al Ahly 3-2 in the finals in Mauritius.

But in reflections with Citizen Digital, Munala revealed that he started early preparations so as to integrate the newly acquired seven players’ into the team.

The seven are Noel Murambi, Violet Makuto, Leonida Kasaya, Truphosa Samoei, Veronica Tanui, Jemimah Siangu and Christine Njambi.

“We are very serious with this competition because we have failed to participate since 2010 and that’s why everybody is in camp. We have started with the physical training and early next month we will be heading to the Kasarani Indoor Arena for the gym,” Munala who also doubles up as the women national team head coach, said.

“The club appointed me to win them a second African title and with the support I’m getting from the club leadership I am sure we will be primed for victory,” he enthused.

KCB finished as runners up in the Kenya Volleyball Federation play-offs behind winners Prisons thus ending Pipeline and Prisons dominance.

Kenya Prisons is the last Kenyan team to win the title, bagging it in 2013 after hitting GSP Algier of Algeria 3-2 in the final in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
