KCB boost promotion chances with crucial win over Coast Stima

Kenya Commercial Bank boosted their promotion chances to the Kenya Premier League after edging out Coast Stima 2-0 in a tough National Super League match played at the Mbaraki Sports Club on Wednesday.

A Dennis Ng’an’ga free kick and a strike by Chrispinus Oduor secured the win. The victory took the bankers points tally to 72, with just two matches left to the end of the season.

KCB alongside Nairobi Stima are tussling for the single left direct nomination slot after leaders Western Stima secured a slot in the KPL.

Elsewhere, at the Hope Centre in Nairobi, Nairobi City Stars beat Kisumu City Stars 2-0 .Joseph Kariuki’s deflected shot in the 43rd minute put City ahead before Charles Otieno added the second from the spot.

Kisumu arrived at Hope Centre grounds with only seven players a situation that was described by Kisumu head coach Nick Anor . FIFA rules allows the referee  to officiate a match with at least seven players from each team.

The seven-man lakeside club was later boosted when  Ebron Aila was brought in in the 38th minute, limiting teh hosts to a 0-0 scoreline at the interval before giving way in the second half.

The win extended City Stars points tally to 52 from 34 matches.

Despite the defeat, Nick Anor, Kisumu All Stars head coach hailed his players.

“Arriving with fewer players was a logistical problem from the team’s management and not my fault nor players and it cost us in the second half,” Nick told Citizen Digital.

“We are very optimistic that we are going to collect maximum points in our next fixture,”Anor who played with eight.

His opposite number, City Stars head coach, John Amboko said it was difficult playing against the opposition as they opted to defend.

“It was difficult for us because they were all defending and it wasn’t easy to find the net but I’m  very happy that we are back to winning ways ,”  Amboko said

In Sudi, Ushuru thumped GFE 105 4. Max Ravel bagged a brace in the 15th and 25th minutes while Bill Oporia(44) and veteran Edwin Mwaura (89) were also on target.
