KCB head coach Japheth Munala has said the lengthy spell of inactivity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is contributor to their sluggish start to the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) season.

Munala says some of his players were overweight on return due to the inconvenience of derailed training regimens following the Government’s suspension of all sport as well as gym facilities for close to nine months.

“We signed up new players before  covid-19 pandemic but the break changed a lot. Some added weight which has been difficult to shed off but they are slowly returning to optimum physical levels,” Munala said.

KCB won one match and lost another during the first leg of KVF league, falling to Kenya Prisons before overcoming KDF. Munala stated that their start was made even more difficult since their new recruits were unable to blend into the team due to the long break.

“We’ve been having friendly matches to make the team gel properly before the second leg so we are hoping for the best. Once the girls understand each other better we’re going to be unbeatable.”

Munala’s charges will face off with Kenya Pipeline and KDF on the second leg of KVF League in Nyayo National Stadium on the 27th and 28th February 2021. Munala  is eyeing the League title which KCB last won in 2008.

The KVF league matches will be played at Nyayo Stadium Indoor Gymnasium.
