KCB coach Zico heads to Germany for month-long training

EXCLUSIVE

KCB head coach Zedekiah ‘’Zico’’ Otieno  is set to leave for Germany to take a month-long coaching training before he embarks on his new role at KCB .

The former Gor Mahia assistant coach who was unveiled as the bankers tactician last week after a decorated second stint with the league champions says he is due to take over his new  role on July 8, but will first have to honour the training in Germany.

‘’I am happy to have gotten this opportunity to travel to Germany for a very serious coaching workshop. Coaching is like any other job that needs new skills every other time. This is likely to happen before the season begins,’’ Zico explained in an interview with Citizen Digital.

As an assistant coach, Zico won three consecutive KPL titles with Gor Mahia, the latest being the just ended season.

Cumulatively he has had a stellar stint with the decorated champions both as a player and coach.

Otieno who is expected to bolster his KCB squad ahead of the new season however maintains that he’s not settled on any new player but expects to get things moving after the Germany stint.

“When the training begins on July 8, I will take my time and see what needs to be done. If there will be need to make any changes in the playing unit, I will definitely act but as at now I don’t have any target in mind,” he said.

The former Harambee Stars defender also dispelled rumours that he intends to raid his former club Gor for a host of fringe players to beef up his squad.

According to Zico, there is no bad blood with his former club which he hailed as ‘a good employer’.

“People always think that whenever a coach leaves a club he must walk out with some players. We coaches respect our former players and in football you can always find your services needed in your former club. What happens if you left unceremoniously?” he posed.

He takes charge from Frank Ouma who led KCB to a tenth place finish with 45 points in the ended KPL season.
