KCB face acid test in promotion quest at Mbaraki Sports Club

KCB coach Elvis Ayany remains optimistic that his side will earn a top flight status as the fight for the single left promotion slot enters the homestretch.

Speaking to Citizen Digital on phone ahead of their  Wednesday clash with Coast Stima at the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa, Ayany said that he is not under pressure but  is aiming to acquire the maximum three points.

Since taking over the coaching duties from the fired John Kamau following a series of poor results, Ayany has won every game beating Kisumu All stars, Kenya Police, Nairobi City Stars and Green Commandos to  move to position two on the log and he attributes this to hard work.

On 69 points, the bankers can ill afford laxity as third placed Nairobi Stima, on 66 points, can pip them to the automatic promotion slot. Only log leaders Western Stima, on 76 points, have secured a KPL status.

“We are not under any pressure to win but we will play and concentrate on our game so as to acquire the maximum three points,” Ayany said.

“Nothing has changed much… it has been a continuation of what the team has been doing previously,”he said, playing down suggestions that his former boss could have been the reason why the performance nose-dived.

Meanwhile, promoted Western Stima will go point hunting at the Karuturi grounds in Naivasha where they’ll face Nairobi Stima. A win will all but  hand Stima the NSL title.

In Nairobi, Nairobi City Stars will welcome Kisumu All Stars at the Hope Centre as Green Commandos confront Kenya Police at the Mumias Sports Club
