KCB FC survived a late on-slaught from Ulinzi Stars as the FKF-Premier League sides settled for a barren draw during Saturday’s clash at the Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.
The result was KCB’s first draw of the season and denied the leaders the opportunity to open four-point gap at the summit ahead of Tusker’s clash against Mathare United on Sunday.
KCB will be grateful to take a point back home after the hosts were denied by the cross bar from Daniel Waweru’s free-kick late on.
AFC Leopards capitalised on that slip at Kasarani after edging Posta Rangers 2-1 to move to within three points off the top spot and having played a game less than KCB.
Elvis Rupia continued his sensational goal-scoring form when he netted the opener and Bienvenue Shaka doubled Leopard’s advantage with Calvin Odongo scoring for Posta.
Julius Masaba and Simeon Masaba scored for Kariobangi Sharks in their 2-1 win at Nairobi City with those strikes coming in between David Agesa’s goal.
In Mumias, Kepha Aswani and Patrick Okulo traded first half goals as Vihiga United held visitors Sofapaka FC in a one-all draw.
At Afraha Masita Bitolwa came close after latching on a poor pass at the back by Nashon Nanyendo but failed to get his feet sorted in time to get away any strike.
The visitors threatened moments later when Baraka Badi fired from long range but his shot kept rising. Vincent Wasambo nearly found the opener but narrowly missed from a headed effort.
Goalkeeper Gabriel Andika did well to get a hand on Oscar Wamalwa’s lobbed effort at the half hour mark, tipping it over for a fruitless corner.
James Saruni showed great awareness at the restart to thwart Derrick Otanga after rushing off his lines to narrow the angle and beat out the attacker’s effort.
Wamalwa went close again before Waweru slammed his free-kick against the cross-bar and KCB were let off again when Bernard Ongoma steered a headed effort just wide of the target.
