KCB in no hurry to recruit new players Zico

KCB head coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno has said they are in no hurry to recruit new players in preparation for next season, which is only a month away.

According to ‘Zico’, it is normal for teams to identify areas of need and recruit appropriate players but this, they will only do when the current season has completely ended.

‘’It is not the right time to recruit. We are waiting for the league to come to a close then we will sit with the entire technical bench and decide on positions that need replacements. As of now, our target is still on finishing in the best position possible,’’ said the coach.

Several teams in the FKF Premier League have already made public their targets and are only waiting for the transfer window to open.

The former Kenyan international reiterated they have already hit their season target, thus winning the title would be a sweet bonus.

‘’It is obvious now that it will either be KCB or Tusker who will win the title. I will be fine with whatever result at the end of the three remaining matches.”

Tusker and KCB are currently tied at 58 points with equal number of matches but separated by goal difference.

The Ruaraka brewers carry the advantage having scored 48 and conceded 25, while KCB have scored 39 and allowed in 20.

Zico admits there would have been more fulfilment to feature in the CAF Champions League should they win the Kenyan Premier League title, a ticket already given to their rivals Tusker FC.

‘’It would have been good, should we win the league, to have the chance to fly Kenya’s flag at the CAF Champions League. However, we don’t regret since we did not top the league as of June 30 as the federation had set the deadline for submitting their representatives to CAF. We will fight for that slot another time,’’ he offered.

‘Zico’ Joined KCB from Gor Mahia two seasons ago and has elevated the team to title contenders.

Should the bankers go on and win the FKF-PL title, it would be their first ever, a moment Zico feels is not too far from them with the growth he has overseen at the club.

KCB play guests to relegation bound Vihiga United on Friday before facing AFC Leopards and Nairobi City Stars on August 22 and 28 respectively, to wind up the season.
