KCB, Kabras brush off opponents to set a mouth-watering final

KCB and Kabras crushed their semis opponents on Saturday to set up a mouth-watering Kenya Cup rugby league final to be played at the Ruaraka grounds next weekend, evoking memories of last year’s meeting.

While Kabras overran Homeboyz 29-13 at the Jamhuri Park, KCB were in riotous form thumping Impala Saracens 15-0 to storm to the final, where they will be meeting for the third time in our years.

Kabras Sugar scored two converted tries and three penalties with the kicks coming from Ugandan international Philip Wokorach against Homeboyz’s one converted try and two penalties.

KCB came off the blocks faster bagging its first three points but this prompted a fierce reaction from Impala who launched several unsuccessful mauls.

Their laxity saw them punished thereafter with Darwin Mukidza going over the whitewash but failed to add the extras.

KCB sensation Michael Wanjala sliced through the Impala defenders like a double-edged sword on butter to land KCB’s second try! The ever-present Mukidza, at his best, this time, was sure with the posts to add the two points as KCB lead 15 -0.

At the Jamhuri Showground, Philip Wokorach had a memorable afternoon clearly enjoying the chilly weather as he scored 19 points as the sugar men proceeded to the finals for the fourth time in a row.

The burly Kenyan Simba forward Joshua Chisanga quick reaction from a penalty caught several Homeboyz players unaware to brush them off to score near the corner post with Ervin Asena levelling the scores with his well-taken conversion.

Homeboyz powerhouse Maxwell Kangeri was sent to the bin after being yellow carded for a dangerous tackle and Wokorach was present to add the much needed three points to take the game out of reach of the Deejays at 29-13.

Kabras Sugar forward Habil Malika was also sent a few minutes later but the visitors held on to win the tantalising fixture.

Last year’s final was won by KCB who walloped Kabras 36-8 to win the Kenya Cup title.
