KCB overtake faltering Tusker in FKF-PL title race

KCB FC has leapfrogged Tusker FC to the top of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) after their 2-0 against Western Stima Wednesday evening, with only four rounds meaning the race will go down to the wire.

The Zedekiah Zico Otieno coached side are now two points ahead of Tusker who lost 2-1 against Bandari FC in Mombasa, having held on at the summit for over a month.

Head coach Robert Matano said his charges will blame themselves for the missed points, as they had good opportunities of winning the crucial match.

“That’s what happens when you don’t use the chances you get, I simply sum it up as stumbling. We also lost concentration having scored first, but we are still firmly in the title race.”

The brewers were forced to make an early substitute in the 8th minute when injured Boniface Muchiri was replaced by Henry Meja.

Bandari first half only chance came from Umaru Kasumba whose shot was blocked by Rodgers Aloro after having well controlled William Wadri’s cross on the goalmouth.

In the 38th minute, midfielder Dennsi Magige misplaced pass was met by Luke Namanda who was brought down by Abdallah Hassan outside the box, just before he pulled the trigger.

The resulting free-kick was well converted by Rodgers Aloro who made no mistake to curl home from 18 yards past a diving Michael Wanyika.

The hosts responded after the break through a free-kick in the 57th minute, almost the same spot when Hassan Iddi scored his first goal of the season to restore parity.

Johanna Mwita who was introduced in the start of the second half replacing Danson Chetambe added Bandari’s second goal in the 77th minute to dent Tusker’s title hopes, their second loss in a row.

KCB are now on 57 points, and would inflict pain on Tusker if they clinched the title as the latter were already handed the CAF Champions league slot for next season, which they have been fight to justify.

Elsewhere Gor Mahia and Sofapaka won by solitary goals against Kakamega Homeboyz and Nzoia Sugar respectively.
