KDF, Police to renew rivalry in league fight

Kenya Defence Forces and Kenya Police are set to renew their perennial rivalry in the third leg of the Boxing Federation of Kenya League set for Mombasa from Thursday to Saturday. The boxers will punch off at “Uwanja wa Mbuzi” in Mombasa.

The climax of the event will be the much-anticipated KDF-Police rivalry. The battle always elucidates strong remarks from boxing fans giving the match the needed fun.

Focus will be on the current Super heavyweight champion Fredrick Ramogi from the soldiers’ camp as he seeks to defend his super heavyweight title.

Kenya Police also known as “Chafu Chafua” have a good history of Ramogi who led the soldiers last season to seize the league title from the former seven time champions.

Ramogi who has been out of a competitive assignment is up to the task and believes no boxer can match his skills in the ring and the opportunity to participate in the league championships is an avenue to sharpen his skills in a bid to be selected for international championships.

The league championships has been organised by Boxing Association of Kenya under the Stewardship of newly elected president Anthony Ombok Otieno alias Jamal and Ramogi’s participation  is a shift of loyalty to the newly elected supremo.

KDF and Kenya Police will be joined by Kenyatta National Hospital, Kibra, Kenya Prisons, Kentrack , Oscar Kassongo Sports Academy (OKSA) and Githurai 44.

Over 15 counties and clubs including hosts Coast will also step into the ring in pursuit of crucial league points for their teams. Among the counties sending their teams include Siaya, Kwale, Kilifi, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia, Laikipia, Kakamega, Kiambu, Busia, Meru, Vihiga, Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.

Police currently head the National Super League chart with 47 points followed by Kibra who have 14 points on their name after the second leg that was held in Busia.

Preliminary fights will start on Thursday preceding the semis on Friday and finals on Saturday.
