Keep focus and grab your chances, burly Amonde tips youngsters for success

KCB flanker Andrew Amonde believes that the local circuit has become more competitive with the young lads proving their mettle in the competition.

Amonde featured for KCB RFC as bankers came out third in the just concluded Driftwoods Sevens in Mombasa, and the burly Kenyan international believes  time is ripe for the coaches to hand the youngsters more playing time as the circuit heads to Dala Sevens next weekend.

“It’s better for the young guys to get more playing time in the local circuit so that they can show what they can offer when given an opportunity to fly the national flag in the international level,” he said.

Amonde at the same time challenged the youngsters to keep their focus and play to team tactics if they are to flourish.

“This is something that can be achieved not only through winning but what you create as a team.

The experienced Shujaa player missed the first two rounds of the National Rugby Sevens Circuit due to international duties but maintains there are vital lessons to be learnt.

“The competition is very fair; we have learnt a lot from the last two legs that we have played in the circuit, it takes a lot of the character from the boys.”

So far Homeboyz lead the circuit with 81 points, nine ahead of second placed Mwamba RFC with KCB sitting third with 66 points.

The fifth round of the circuit will take place n September 8 at the Dala Sevens in Kisumu.
