Kenya 7s drop to Bowl after Australia defeat in Dubai

Kenya surrendered a 12-10 lead with only seconds to play to lose 17-12 in their third match of the day and as a result dropped to Dubai Challenge trophy on Friday.

Kenya had gone into the game needing to win the game by a huge margin after France had battered Japan 35-0 in the other pool match but Aussie’s Charlie Taylor struck right at the death to bring the entertaining clash to a storming finish.

The Australians have completely dominated the Shujaa in recent years, winning their last 13 meets and Ed Jenkins put them on course to stretching that record as he broke the deadlock in the 4th minute.

With the try – his 105th career try – Jenkins moved to within just two shy of Peter Miller’s all-time Australian Sevens tries record.

Loose play by Billy Odhiambo saw the Kenyans surrender possession and allowing 21-year-old Charlie Taylor to register his first-ever sevens series try. But right at the stroke of the break, William Ambaka pulled one back to give his side a lifeline back into the contest.

However, Odhiambo quickly atoned for his mistake as he got on the end of a brilliant passing move to give Kenya a 12-10 lead but just as the siren sounded, Charlie Taylor stole it for Australia, breaking away from his own half to score the try after a long run.
