Kenya 7s safe from relegation after reaching Paris 7s quarters

Kenya 7s has reached their first cup quarterfinal of the season at the HSBC World Sevens Series after beating Wales 26-21 at Paris 7s on Saturday.

The win also means Kenya 7s survive relegation as Japan lost 22-21 to Scotland in their last pool match to miss Sunday’s cup quarterfinal.

By reaching cup quarters, Kenya 7s is assured of at least 10 points and will close Paris7 s with at least 37. With Japan dropping to challenge trophy, they will be relegated as they can only accumulate 33.

Kenya 7s will play USA in tomorrow’s cup quarters at 12.50pm.

Kenya’s matches on Saturday saw them draw 19-19 with Australia before losing 29-12 to South Africa in their second match.

In their26-21 win over Wales, Goodchild got Wales off the mark against the Kenyans after a well worked move by his teammates, finishing off with a successful Davies conversion. He then followed that up with his fifth try of the weekend.

Bush Mwale deceived the Welsh with a dummy and broke through the line to bring Kenya back on level terms.

Kenya would turn things around in the Pool B match. They were 14-0 down in the first-half but what a second-half show they put on. A Jenkins try brought the difference down to 5 points heading to the last minutes.

Kenya would however hold on to the win. That was also confirmed by South Africa’s 19-17 win over Australia who were the other team in pool B.
