Kenya 7s set for Vancouver party

Having pooled double digit points in four of the five rounds in the first season since the return of Benjamin Ayimba at the helm of the side, the national 7s team, Shujaa, are out for more of the same when they return to action on Saturday in the Vancouver 7s, Canada.

Kenya face Samoa, leaders, Fiji and Portugal in a tough Pool A in the sixth stop of the 2015/16 HSBC World Series coming from the Las Vegas 7s where their run was ended by Japan in the Plate semi finals.

Shujaa begin their group stage campaign against Portugal at 9.36 pm local time (+3GMT) then face Samoa on Sunday morning at 3.12 am and finish their group matches with a tough encounter against series leaders Fiji at 5am.

During the Las  Vegas 7s Kenyan stunned New Zealand 22-0 on Saturday night to top Pool A, but Ayimba’s boys lost the Main Cup quarters to USA before falling to Japan in the Plate last four to earn 10 points.

Australia, runners-up for a second successive tournament in USA play Wales, Russia and hosts Canada in Pool B while South Africa, Argentina, Scotland and the invited team Brazil will compete in Pool C.

Pool D which is considered by many as ‘the group of death’ has USA, New Zealand, France and England.

After five legs of the Olympics year’s Series Kenya are eighth with 52 points with last season’s champions Fiji topping the table with 91.

South Africa are second with 86, 2014 champions New Zealand are third while Australia and USA wrap up the top five.
